Its been a good few months since Nov and I moved out here to "Ricky", and to be frank, we're loving it.
They say change is as good as a holiday, which is good since I've hardly had a day off since I moved here.
But I'm not complaining, quiet the opposite. Not having to commute makes my job feel much more like a hobby. I am after all a "Standard Nerd".
There's not many distractions out here, we haven't got a TV, nor have we been to the cinema at all since we moved out.
I'm realizing that living in Islington is "easy", you don't need to really try to stay engaged, you just let life wash over you.
If you see a film its probably because you were walking past the cinema.
If you feel like sushi or French or a pint at the Elk, its probably because subconsciously you know these things are with in easy reach.
Rickmansworth, on the other hand, imposes a certain mental discipline on you. If you want a pint, you have to choose between several very un-interesting pubs. If you want to eat out, its Chinese, Italian, Thai or Pub (the latter category probably not familiar to Australian readers).
Because of this, and probably because of the lack of commute I now feel I have more mental energy to expend on things I've always really wanted to do. I'm writing a game for Nova (a mix of text twist and jumble) and joining a London IT/politics group. And when we do decide to have "a night out" in London it just seems less mundane and more interesting.
It wont last long though, this easy life, as we're heading back to Aus to get married in a month and a week, then ill probably be looking for a new Job, which will doubtless mean a commute again, and possible moving house, and/or country.
